  • How to Apply?

We strongly recommend that you to visit the Application Centre by prior appointment. This will help you save unnecessary waiting time. You will particularly value the appointment facility during the peak season when long queues may be an occurrence.

You can make an online application in 3 easy steps:
    1. Obtain a fee receipt from any designated branch of Brac Bank. Please carry a photocopy of your passport data page when you go to the bank. Information on the relevant fee is available.
    2. Schedule an appointment to submit your visa application pack at the nearest UK Visa Application Centre.
    3. Download the Visa Application Form and print it out.

Please arrive at the UK Visa Application Centre 10 minutes before your appointment time.

You may also visit the Application Centre without making a prior appointment.

    Highly Skilled Forum Judicial Review
The recent High Court ruling in the UK resulting from the Highly Skilled Forum Judicial Review affects certain people who formerly had leave in the UK under the Highly Skilled Migrant Programme (HSMP). You may be covered by this ruling if you joined HSMP under the arrangements which were in place until the scheme was suspended on 7 November 2006 and you either:
    1. applied for and were refused further leave to remain under the new extension rules which came into force on 5 December 2006, and subsequently left the UK, or
    2. left the UK after 7 November 2006 without ever applying for further leave to remain under the new rules.

A policy document which explains in detail who is affected by the ruling is available on the UK Border Agency website.

    Forms and Guidance

Guidance on making and assessing applications under the HSMP Judicial Review judgement is available on the Visa Services website.
The standard PBS form (VAF 9) and Appendix 1(Tier 1- General) have been expanded to allow them to be used by HSMP Forum JR applicants in both categories, ie (a) and ( b).

    Making Your Application

Applications in both categories should be made at the appropriate visa section or VAC in the usual way. Category (a) applicants will not be charged a fee; category (b) applicants should pay the standard Tier 1 (General) fee.

  • Call Centre Details

As part of a continuing process to improve service to our customers, the Immigration Section has opened a new Call-Centre to receive all enquiries related to visa applications. Fully-trained staffs are available to answer general and specific questions and hand out advice on making an application for UK entry clearance.

You can contact the Call-Centre on the following telephone numbers:
    7161736, 7162247
    0800 - 1300 and 14-00 1600, Sunday - Thursday

Please note that any call received at the High Commission will be re-directed to the Call-Centre.
  • How long will it take for your application to be processed?

You will be informed at the time of acceptance of your application the expected processing time line. This may vary by visa category. Please allow for extended processing timelines during peak seasons.

We recommend that you apply at least eight weeks before your intended date of travel. It is in your interest not to purchase your travel services till issue of visa has been confirmed.

Processed applications can be collected back from the Application Centre where the application was originally submitted.

  • Do I have to be interviewed by an officer of the British High Commission?

Issue or refusal of a visa is based on the assessment of your application by an Entry Clearance Officer at the British High Commission.

The Entry Clearance Officer may decide to interview if they need more information before making a decision on your application. In such case, you will need to visit the British High Commission at Dhaka by appointment. At the visa section, the time for each interview is limited. It is thus important for the Entry Clearance Officer to gain a quick and accurate understanding of each application. But because they are working from a script, these applicants do not always listen to the questions actually asked or provide relevant answers. So please give full and clear replies to the questions. If you do not know the answer, say so.
